Darrell Christie, Artistic Director

Darrell Christie, hailing from the UK, is renowned for his versatile approach to performance and arts education, emphasizing collaboration. He pursued studies at Keele University in the UK, as well as York University and Queen's University in Canada, specializing in vocal performance (music theatre and classical voice), conducting, and music education.

Throughout his career, Darrell has achieved success internationally as a performer, musical director, and educator. His work has spanned across Canada, with notable appearances in the UK, France, China, Portugal, the USA, and Australia.

At Queen's University, Darrell holds a faculty position where he leads the choral program and teaches voice, conducting, and music theatre. Additionally, he serves as the Artistic Director of The Isabel Voices (formerly the Kingston Chamber Choir), holds a position as a Tenor and Member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Chamber Choir, and acts as the Music Supervisor for the Watershed Music Theatre Festival at Queen's University.

Darrell's research primarily focuses on music creation and explores the potential of choral music beyond Eurocentric practices. By encouraging collaborative composition within choral groups, his research investigates how fostering creativity in a group setting can enhance engagement in choral music, promote diversity and inclusivity in musical practices, and contribute to the well-being of participants.
